Subject: Tell the Senate Leadership to allow a Partial Birth Abortion vote!

Dear Americans,

My recent email cited six priorities for the newly elected Republican majority.

One of those - banning partial birth abortions - cannot wait for the Republican majority to be sworn in.

We must implore Tom Daschle and Trent Lott to act immediately.

It sickens me to describe partial birth abortion. I will understand if you want to skip the next paragraph. But don't skip taking action now.

Partial birth abortion is a hideous act...An abortionist, guided by ultrasound, grabs the legs of a third trimester baby with forceps, and pulls it down the birth canal. The abortionist delivers the baby's entire body feet first, until the head appears. The abortionist then inserts scissors into the baby's skull. The scissors are opened to

enlarge the hole and a suction catheter is inserted. The baby's brain matter is then sucked out, the skull collapses, and the dead baby is removed.

Horrified? So am I. So is the overwhelming majority of the country. In fact, the polls show that more than 80% of all Americans oppose partial birth abortion.

Even pro-choice Americans agree that partial birth abortion needs to be banned. Retired Democrat Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan said it was "close to infanticide."

So why does it continue?

There is one reason and one reason only - the political arrogance of Tom Daschle. Apparently he would rather a baby die in this horrible manner than risk the loss of support from the radical feminists. With Tom Daschle politics comes before everything else - even a baby's life.

Twice the House and the Senate passed a bill that would ban this practice when Bill Clinton was President, but he vetoed it each time.

The House of Representatives passed another ban on partial birth abortion last year, House Bill 4965. The bill had enough votes in the Senate to pass, and President Bush said he would sign it. But Tom Daschle refused to let the issue come to a vote in the Senate. Soon Sen. Lott and the Republicans will control the Senate, and Lott has said he will bring it to a vote sometime next year.

Tell both of them it is time for the Senate to act now.

On Election Day the American people took power away from Tom Daschle. As we grasp this historic opportunity to enact the President's agenda, the very first priority should be topass a meaningful ban on partial birth abortions.

As I said earlier, Senate Majority leader (again) Trent Lott said right after the election that there would be a vote in the Senate, but he did not say when. Observers say a vote

is likely no earlier than March or April.

Friends, every day the Senate waits is a day too late. Unborn babies cannot afford to wait. Partial birth abortionmust be stopped immediately.

Confirming judges is important. Making tax cuts permanent is great. And a Department of Homeland Security is vital. But none of this matters if we allow even one more nearly born child to be aborted in this, the most gruesome manner possible.

Please go to the link below and tell Senators Daschle and Lott to bring the Partial Birth Abortion Ban to a vote immediately.
